KA24 rebuild?

#1

Post by Farmer Joe » Sat Oct 04, 2014 3:20 pm

welp, the time is upon us to try and take this KA apart soon.

ive got a 93 d21 KA single cam in the truck.

guess my first question is the main and rod bearings between all the KA variants. are they the same or are there specific sets for certain KAs?

secondly, can i use single cam s13 rods with the truck crank?

overall goal is to use s13 pistons to bump the compression up in the truck engine.

id like to have that compression bump to go with the s13 cam i have.

thanks!

welp, nevermind..

found what i was looking for..

http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... gine+specs

truck KAs have bigger main and rod bearings than the s13 counterpart.

so it looks like im stuck with 8.6:1 compression..

i guess another question would be, can 240sx pistons be used on truck rods?

I think so... Just would have to have the small end modified for a floating pin...

Are you looking for a custom combo or just need to freshen up a tired engine?
When the only tool you have is a hammer every problem starts to look like a hippy.

mainly a rebuild on a tired engine..

seeing if i might be able to do a cheap or free compression upgrade, but im not too worried about it.

One thing to keep in mind, is Nissans bearing grading system. The block should have numbers 1-4 next to the mains, and respectively on the crank. Sometimes you can get by with STD bearings, if you can take material off with a micropolish

I got away with STD bearings. Either my CA had no miles, or the cranks just dont wear.
