I took a 78 620 L20 w/ 5 speed and installed into a 74 620 that had the L16 w/ 4speed and it fit perfect. ( swapped the EI dist and IR alternator since 74 didn't have them ) Both trannys were the same length.

The engine wiring was not a problem, seems like it all hooked up with no issues as long as the distributor and alternator are not EI and IR.

Welcome to the form Austin, looking forward to the pic's.

Welcome :)

Put the L20b in it, you will be happier in the long run.

Repair L16.
Set it aside.
Install L20b.
Enjoy.
