Saw these for sale and went in deep!
Magnesium 13 X 10, 4 on 4.5 and 3.375" of back spacing, there are in very good shape- just a wee bit of white corrosion on back of one spoke. Could not find a name or #'s, pair weights in at 27lbs. Time to break out the Gibbs Brand penetrant and clean them up.

Those things are going to look amazing when cleaned up and polished with some fatty tires on it. I'd run white lettered tires with the car at a slight rake. Omnomnomnom.

Did you wash em up yet?

I haven't decided on wither to polish them or not, kinda like the patina that is on them now. Need to get them oiled up and get the corrosion under control, moisture and magnesium don't mix very well as water is the leading cause of deterioration. They would look good very cool polished up, something more to consider??

Wild ... I vote for cleaning them (phosphoric acid) and coating them with DOW 7 for that vintage racer look!

I plan on treating them with, Gibbs Brand Lubricant- have a couple of cans on the way. Need to test if the wheels will fit into bead blast cabinet or not and then there's all that hand polishing. Not to thrilled about that part! Not familiar with DOW 7??

Ive hand polish 7 wheels in the past 2 weeks... its not exactly fun.

I dont offer that service. If I didnt do it by hand maybe, but I do it cause im broke, and wanted to do some work out of the rain.

If you Google MAGNESIUM + DOW7 you should get plenty of information. It's a different beast than Aluminum alloys, and it looks like you have scored some rare ones - so I was suggesting what is considered "proper" for cleaning and refinishing them. Not only to make them look better, but to preserve them too.

Also - poor condition magnesium wheels can be very dangerous :shock:

I like the patina in the spokes and barrel of the wheels.

Didn't want to do the chemical strip- used Gibbs and Scotch brite pads on the machined front surfaces.

Still have half of a front left to do.
The backs, removed the white corrosion- coated with Gibbs and used Scotch pad just enough to remove old tire rubber. This is a trying process and do what the hands can handle! Hoping to have them done by Blue Lake in August.

In case you're not familiar with Magnesium wheel failure, look into it.
The folks who are serious about them will have them checked annually.
X-ray is one way. Dye penetrate and checking under UV light is another.

Thank you for your well founded concern, I read most of the info from the link you posted as well as many others dealing with the testing/methods of/scary stuff-wheels coming apart!
I have had a CAT scan, and don't see an easy way to hiding one my surgical gown, let alone two!
I need to find a company in the greater Portland, Oregon area and find the cost of testing for cracks in magnesium.
The only tires I have found available that would work for autocross and an occasional track day are 255/40-13 Hoosiers, at about $235 each, 10" width rims in 13" tires are tough, not many to choose between...??
What started out as a fun little project has the potential of becoming a $1000.00 static display!
