Ok, so I am going to make a few 521 5 speed transmission mounts, I am going to try to do this in such a way that I can do it over and over, maybe I can make $5.00 an hour making them.
I am starting with the frame section from a 520/521, it was a trailer, but I cut all that stuff off, once I could get to the mount holes, I ran a tap through them to clean up the threads.
Here is what the stock 4 speed mount looks like mounted, notice how high it sticks up above the cross member.
This is what is needed for the 5 speed mount, see how much lower it is where it mounts to the tranny, I also am making these to use the 720 transmission mount.
Here is what I am starting with, this is real backyard stuff, but it should help me make these consistently the same.
I have the pre-made mount in position with the piece of metal I made bolted to it to hold it in position.
Here it is welded in position with a 720 tranny mount bolted up to it.
It's ready now for me to cut pieces of metal to bolt on to the frame and mount so I can tack them in position, then remove and weld them.

Re: 5 speed transmission mount for the 521
I made some progress today.
This is a set of jigs I made, I am able to drill all the holes and cut in the right places with these.
Here are some photos of the first one finished in position.
I certainly miss being able to post several photos at once.

Should do the job just fine.

I wish I could actually see what I was welding, I guess I will adjust the helmet to the lightest setting and see if that helps.

Re: 5 speed transmission mount for the 521
This is cool Wayno.
When we put the dogleg in my 521, Chester and I got a 3/4" thick piece of steel and had it welded into an L shaoe and then drilled some bolt holes and bolted it to the crossmember. We tried cutting original mount down and re-welding it but that did not come out exactly right. I guess I should get under there and take a pic of it someday. It is over kill on the mount buut hey, it won't be going anywhere, thats for sure!!

Re: 5 speed transmission mount for the 521
These are made to use the 720 transmission mount, I cannot send something out that could possibly break because I cannot see what I am welding, so I make it like this, it's bullet proof, and doesn't hang below the existing cross member like the original one did that came with my truck in the photo below.
The ones I make also have to use all 4 mounting holes, the one above started stripping the threads out of my crossmember.
