Barn find '80!!
It's been sitting 11 yrs. Has 190k on it. 15k of that was being towed be behind RV. Very well taken care of 1 owner. Old guy who kept everything in good working order. Not sure if 4 or 5 spd yet.
A good friend of mine came to this thru his father in law. He said he is inspired by me driving my 79 all over the country and wants one of his own . Somethin to tinker with and drive to work.
So he towing it home and cleaning it up a bit. Wants me to come over and spend a day helping him getting it goin. He said it has antifreeze in it and oil is good. Looks like oil.
I figure we take plugs out mmaybe put little oil down each hole.
Flush out brake system with new fluid.
Get old gas out of tank. Does an 80 have a plug on bottom of tank??
Complete wiring check.
get it going then worry about emissions delete and all that shit.
My biggest concern is that carb. After 11 years of sitting any gas left in it will have turned to shit won't it? Gaskets in it all brittle and shit?
Told him if carb is shit to get a weber and toss it on. We shall see. I'm excited.

Re: Barn find '80!!
a couple things to add to your list.
take the valve cover off and pour oil over the cam lobes. Once that's been done, this would be a good time to crank the engine over ( spark plugs removed ) until oil is coming out of "" ALL """ of the oiling holes.
carb should be fine but time will tell.
not sure if the gas tank has a plug but you'll find that out once your with the 720.
Anyways, keep us posted cause were here to help your friend and you.

Re: Barn find '80!!
As far as I know, all 720 tanks had a plug in the tank, it's at the front of the tank, it's 12mm.
What I have always done to an engine that has sat for a long time that I plan on starting is to check for oil, then remove the fuel line to tank, then remove the plugs and squirt a bit of oil in each cylinder, then turn it over by hand first, then with the starter, then I would make sure the dist had power, pour a little fuel down the carb and try to start it, if it hit, then I would fill the bowl with gas, and then start it again for that one bowl of fuel, after it ran a minute or two I would shut it down and prep it to run for a complete thermostat cycle(completely warmed up), if all went well and the gauges work, then I would shut it down and prep it for the road.
Is it a kingcab?

Standard cab has the smallest tank, and it is completely under the bed, no part of it goes under the cab like the kingcab tank.
The 720 truck is nice, you can do all the brake upgrades if you want to, and it's all bolt on.
